She was “kidnapped” because Gloria Moreno was not authorized to remove Mrs. Little from the facility by any of her five (5) children. Gloria Moreno lied to the Britthaven Nursing Facility staff by communicating that Mrs. Little’s oldest daughter, Mrs. Stella Little Johnson, was with her at a family member’s birthday party and she was aware of her taking my grandmother. Mrs. Johnson was contacted by the nursing facility and she emphatically stated to the nursing facility and to Gloria Moreno that she was to return Mrs. Little to the facility. Gloria Moreno did not obey Mrs. Johnson and Gloria Moreno deceptively traveled to Gary, Indiana with Mrs. Little against the will and without permission of her five (5) children. Since this incident, the children have legally, but unsuccessfully attempted to get Mrs. Little back to Washington, NC, who has been held in locations in Gary, Indiana and surrounding areas.
Mrs. Little suffers from dementia and was blessed to see 97 years on August 5, 2007. This was Mrs. Little’s first birthday, since the death of her late husband, where none of her five (5) children were with her to celebrate it. For more than 70 years Mrs. Little has resided at her home, 319 Gladden Street, Washington, NC, and after the death of her husband, Mr. Shade K. Little, in 1983, she resided there alone on a daily basis until last year, 2006. It was within the last five years, approximately, that Mrs. Little began to receive assistance during the day at her home and just last year, someone was hired to remain at the home overnight. During this five year period, ALL of Mrs. Little’s children, Mrs. Little’s Goddaughter, Mrs. Alberta Brooks, and Mrs. Johnson’s two daughters, consistently and constantly visited Mrs. Little at her home, on the weekends, to assist Mrs. Little with any help she needed. Mrs. Little NEVER spent one holiday or significant event without the love and care of her children and their children.
Early this year, 2007, at the age of 96, Mrs. Little suffered a hairline hip fracture and her children decided Mrs. Little, after consultation, would be admitted to the Britthaven Nursing Facility for rehabilitation and 24-hour care. This was an agreement (100 percent) by her five (5) children who relied on medical advice and personal research as to what facility was deemed adequate for Mrs. Little’s needs. After being admitted, the children were pleased with the care and feel of the Britthaven Nursing Facility. Her five (5) children and their children continued to visit on the weekends and during the week as they had been doing for at least the past five years. This level of dedication NEVER wavered. During her short stay at the Britthaven Nursing Facility, Mrs. Little always had MANY visitors, outside of the consistent and constant visitation by her children, their children and Mrs. Alberta Brooks. Mrs. Little has been falsely taken away from her family. This is truly deplorable and the children fear for Mrs. Little because they do not know how she is being cared for. None of Mrs. Little’s five children and their children have been contacted by the estranged granddaughter, Gloria Moreno, who kidnapped her. Gloria Moreno, after the kidnapping, also took the liberty and deceptively contacted the Britthaven Nursing Facility to inform them that Mrs. Little would NOT return so Mrs. Little lost her room there. This estranged granddaughter, Gloria Moreno, who had not seen Mrs. Little since 1999, also contacted her then attorney, John Henry Hall of Hall Legal Services of Gary, Indiana, when she returned home. He advised her that Mrs. Little’s children have the legal rights on deciding Mrs. Little’s care and he advised Gloria Moreno to return Mrs. Little to Washington, NC. Gloria Moreno did not comply and has NOT complied.
Just to provide information on what has legally been pursued, the children have done the following:
1) Filed a police incident report on June 17, 2007 with the Washington, North Carolina Police Department.
2) Contacted the Gary, Indiana Police Department and requested support with getting Mrs. Little back a week after she was abducted. Three of Mrs. Little’s children traveled to Gary, Indiana to rescue Mrs. Little. Gloria Moreno fled with Mrs. Little again and the attempt failed.
3) Provided letters to Gloria Moreno's then attorney, John Hall, stating Gloria Moreno was NOT given permission to take their mother, Mrs. Little.
4) Sent letters to the Gary, Indiana Chief of Police, Gary, Indiana Mayor, Gary Indiana Assistant Mayor, the State of Indiana Governor, and Gary, Indiana Health and Human Services to request support with this situation.
Gloria Moreno had a summons sent to EVERY child of Mrs. Little stating that they all stalked her, attempted to kill her and one of the sons allegedly hit one of her relatives. This court action was done after three of Mrs. Little’s children attempted to rescue her in Gary, Indiana, but had absolutely NO contact with her. All of the children received this court order and ONLY three were even present in Gary, Indiana to rescue their mother the week after she was kidnapped. NONE of this information was true. The fabrication of lies has continued and the Little children still have NOT received any rest in this situation.
Mrs. Little’s children and their children are desperately seeking help to assist them with bringing Mrs. Little back to Washington, NC. If you are able to help, please contact:
